About Gala

I am a small hobby breeder located in northern Kentucky, near Cincinnati, OH. My love of dogs began as a young child. I started in collies in the 1970s and switched to Shetland Sheepdogs in the early 1990s when I purchased my first show sheltie, Levi (Marluke Camist I Be Blue). I bred my first sheltie litter in 1995, which produced my first homebred champion, CH/UKC GR CH. Gala Eloquence.
My focus is breeding AOAC (Any Other Allowed Color) shelties. Litters are planned well in advance with genetic testing completed prior to any breedings. All dogs have their eyes checked by a veterinary ophthalmologist, hip xrays are obtained and evaluated by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA), thyroid and DNA testing to eliminate or significantly reduce genetic anomalies from my breeding program. CERF and thyroid testing continues periodically throughout the dog's life.
I breed only with the intention of improving the breed and with the goal of always striving to move closer towards perfection as described
by the breed standard, written by the ASSA and adopted by the American Kennel Club. I compete primarily in conformation events in AKC, UKC, International and Canadian Kennel Club venues.Gala dogs are house dogs and companions. Puppies are born and raised in my home and not in a kennel. Puppies are generally allowed to leave for their new homes between 9 - 10 weeks of age; occasionally exceptions will be made for puppies to be placed with experienced breeders or performance homes between 8 - 9 weeks of age, but under no circumstances is a puppy allowed to leave prior to 8 weeks of age.
